Our Girls

MELI Bea

Type: Cinnamon Dumbo
Carries: We’re not sure, possibly nothing
DOB: 10/2/2022
Nicknames: BeaBea, Bobbles
Bea reminds me of her mom, Polly. She’s very soft and sweet, licky and calm. She's also the world’s nicest, most gentle treat taker. 10/10 good girl.

Past Girls

MELI Clover

Type: Cinnamon
Carries: Possibly nothing
DOB: 10/2/2022
Nicknames: Cloooooover
Clover is social and confident. She wants to be where you are, and is the calm and steady boss of the big girls cage. She’s a sucker for slow foreheads pets and a scratch around the ears.

Clover passed away on 11/20/2024. She had not been ill. Clover was a sweet girl and is missed.

MELI Polly

Type: Black Irish dumbo
Carries: Mink. This crazy girl carries MINK, which hid for 6, six, SIX generations. Lort. Polly only had one litter of two babies, so it’s a bit hard to tell what else might be lurking.
DOB: 2/26/2022
Nicknames: Polls, Wolly
Polly is an actual doll. She’s soft and people-focused, and chunky. Did I mention chunky? She’s from a litter of two, so she missed no meals!

MELI Pepper Ann

Type: Black Irish dumbo
Carries: Black-eyed gene, Siamese, hairless
DOB: 11/10/2021
Nicknames: Peeps
Pepper Ann is exactly as spunky as the 90s TV show. She inherited her dad’s social grooming habits, so everyone’s finger nails are in tip top shape. Pepper Ann had one litter and was pet placed.

SRG Pigeon

Type: Russian Cinnamon
Carries: I mean Russian Cinnamon is its own recessive starburst, so she’s expressing Agouti, Russian Blue, and Mink
DOB: 1/6/2021
Nicknames: Pidge, Pidgeypoo

Pigeon is a smart, fun girl. She’s named for her color, also called Russian Dove Agouti. Originally she was going to be Paloma, but with the Agouti ticking “dirtying” her coat up, she became Pigeon instead!

Pigeon passed away a few months before her 3rd birthday.

SGR Super Nova

Type: Black-Eyed Himalayan Agouti Point Dumbo
Carries: Hairless
DOB: 05/12/2020
Nicknames: We call her Soupie just about 100% of the time

Soupie is laid back and soft, and a total doll. She’s a gorgeous rat and a fantastic mom. We’re so happy to have her here at Meli Rats. She had two (large!) litters and is now enjoying a well deserved retirement as a beloved pet.

Soupie lived a long life and passed away a month after her 3rd birthday. Soupie, I miss you.

MELI Bonnie

Type: Black Irish dumbo
Carries: Black-eyed gene, Siamese, hairless
DOB: 12/17/2020
Nicknames: Bons, BonnieBoo

Bonnie is a big happy girl. She’s more laid back than many female rats, but still curious and fun. When you pick her up she’s mush, but when you set her down she’s off on an adventure! Bonnie had two beautiful litters and is living out her retirement in a pet home with half-sister Daphne.

Daphne.jpg

MELI Daphne

Type: Agouti
Carries: Black-eyed gene, Siamese, hairless
DOB: 2/28/2021
Nicknames: DiffDaff, Daffadoodle

Daphne is a calm and confident girl. She has a pretty face (see: photo) and is always at the front of the cage. Daphe is the most “basic” looking rat (wild color, standard ears), but we like to walk on the minimalist side and think she’s gorgeous. Daphne had two litters and is living her best retirement life in a pet home with half-sister Bonnie

DEMO Marie Curie

Type: Albino
DOB: 7/4/2021
Marie is an albino lab rat. She and her brother came to our program with the hopes that we could use them to improve longevity (as her line has a well studed 33! month average life span). Unforunately, their temperaments were more difficult to work with than we anticipated, and we’ve decided not to incorporate them into our lines. Marie became increasingly stressed by everyday life outside of the lab, to the point where she was no longer safe to handle or care for. She was humanely euthanized. Rest in Peace, Marie.

Moonie.jpg

MELI Moon Unit

Type: Russian Blue Berkshire with headspot
Carries: Black Eyed Siamese
DOB: 03/21/2020
Nicknames: Moonie, Moonie Moo

Moonie is the boss in the house. Her white markings were a surprise in our usually unmarked lines, but who can resist that extra cute headpot?

Moonie had one small litter and did not successfully have another. She developed a mammary tumor and possibly some kind of congestive heart failure, and was retired to a lovely pet home. I love the snot out of her, but we stopped breeding rats related to her rats related to her due to these health issues.

SGR Lumi

Type: Russian Blue Point Black-Eyed Siamese Dumbo
DOB: 5/29/2019
Nicknames: Lumes, LumiLoo

Lumi is super friendly and sweet, enjoys cheerios and blueberries. She raised two litters of wonderful babies and is now living the good life in her retirement. Her name means “Snow” in Finnish.

Lumi passed away at 26 months. She had a mammary tumor that was nonoperable due to the location and her age. We waited until it began to impede her quality of life, at which point we made the decision to have her put to sleep. Lumi, you are missed.

Calla

Type: Black Variagated Blazed Dumbo
DOB: c. 8/15/2018

Calla was not a part of our breeding program, but lived here with the rest of our rats as a pet. She’s was bit on the shy side, but enjoyed exploring and trying to be as close to your face as possible.

Calla was our nanny rat. She LOVED looking after new babies. She developed a mammary tumor at a little over two years and was humanely euthanized when it became too large for her to be comfortable. Calla and her sister Dot came to us at a rough time in our lives, and were a comfort. Rest easy, Calla!

Dot

Type: Black Variagated Berkshire Headspot Dumbo
DOB: c. 8/15/2019
Like Calla, Dot was not part of our breeding program but lived here solely as a pet. Dot is sweet and easy going. She developed a mammary tumor at two years old, in the exact same spot her sister Calla later would. She was humanely euthanized when the tumor became too large for her to live her life in comfort. Thank you for being our pet, Dot.
